VihoX 40 Ton Round Counterflow FRP Cooling Tower for Small PP Sheet Lines

Description

Why a Single-Cell 40 Ton Tower Fits Small Extrusion Shops

Some workshops simply cannot spare a plant room, so the chiller and tower have to live beside the machine. The VihoX 40 Ton unit answers that constraint: its moulded shell measures roughly 1,650 mm across, yet it still moves a nominal 31.2 m³/h of circulating water. That covers a small PP or PS sheet line, one or two mould circuits, or pilot-scale process cooling without a separate concrete pad.

How the 40T Circuit Moves Heat Out of the Hall

A single 1.5 kW axial fan lifts 16,800 m³/h of air through the pack. A rotary sprinkler sprays the returning water across PVC heat-exchange fill, and the cooled water drains into an integrated basin whose float valve restores any shortfall by itself. Because glass-reinforced plastic forms the whole casing, damp hall air cannot rust the shell the way a painted steel body would over a few seasons.

Design Basis and Rating Conditions

Ratings assume 37 °C water entering the tower, 32 °C leaving, a 5 °C cooling range and a 27 °C design wet-bulb temperature. Tell us your local summer wet-bulb and we will re-check the approach.

Cooling Tower Specifications — VihoX-40CT

Design Point VihoX 40T Value Floor-Level Consequence
Nominal circulating flow 31.2 m³/h Enough for a small sheet line or one mould circuit

Fan motor 1.5 kW The lightest electrical load in the whole range
Air volume 16,800 m³/h Keeps approach tight even on humid summer days
Fan diameter Approx. 890 mm Low tip speed, so noise stays near conversation level
Inlet / outlet ports DN80 Standard flanges, no custom pipe spools needed
Dry weight Approx. 130 kg Two workers can position it before filling
Operating weight Approx. 550 kg A flat 150 mm slab is sufficient underneath
Overall size Approx. Ø1650 × H1800 mm Slips through a standard 1800 mm roller door
Matched pump 4 kW clean-water centrifugal Vertical inline or horizontal, whichever the layout prefers

Pump Pairing and Line Matching for the 40T

Sizing assumes a clean-water centrifugal pump delivering 32.76 m³/h against 20 to 30 m of head, a figure your piping layout should confirm before ordering. Both vertical inline and horizontal pump bodies bolt straight onto the DN80 tower ports. In practice the 40T pairs most often with a 105 single-screw PP/PS sheet line or a compact thermoforming cell.

Selection and Installation Questions

Can a 40 ton tower really keep up with a small sheet line at full output?

Yes, provided the line’s heat rejection stays under the tower’s thermal capacity. Send us the extruder motor size and barrel heating power and we will confirm the margin before you commit.

What pipe diameter should run between the 40T and my machine?

DN80 matching the tower ports is the normal choice. Going smaller throttles the flow and costs you approach temperature.

How much top-up water does the basin need each day?

Losses come mainly from evaporation and drift. The float valve replenishes them continuously, so operators normally never touch it during a shift.

Is the 40T quiet enough to sit next to the operator?

The 890 mm fan turns slowly and the motor draws only 1.5 kW, which keeps airborne noise modest. For stricter limits we can discuss a lower-speed variant.

Must the pump be vertical?

No. Vertical inline saves footprint, horizontal is easier to service. Either body works with the same DN80 connection set.

Does the tower need frost protection in winter?

In unheated halls, yes. Drain the basin and headers when the line stops for long periods, or keep the circuit circulating above freezing.

How much floor area should I reserve including the pump?

Allow roughly 1.5 metres by 2 metres to leave service access on all four sides of the shell and the pump skid.

Does the FRP shell need repainting or annual coating?

No. The moulded shell resists corrosion on its own; routine care is limited to clearing the strainer and flushing the basin.

What Goes With a 40 Ton Tower

The tower rejects bulk heat while the precision side of the circuit is handled by a 3HP air-cooled chiller. Where the workshop also runs pneumatic equipment, a 10HP PM VSD compressor supplies the air, and most installations at this size serve a vacuum former or one small mould circuit.
